There are many controversies when it comes to texting. Not so long ago the concept of a text messages did not even exist. Now it seems to be the only source of communication that people use. I'll be the first to admit that I would rather text than call to contact somebody. It is easier, faster, and saves some time by not having to engage in extra conversation. Yes, it is true that texting has it's downsides but it also contributes to the fast paced world that we live in today. Moreover, I believe that the biggest downside of texting is texting as a distraction.
Texting, in many ways, is very convenient because it does save a lot of time. However, it also serves as a heavy distraction. When people go from calling at home to texting in class it starts to become a distraction. I believe when texting first started up people were using it as a substitution of calls. Now we use it for everything. We went from texting as a need to texting as a luxury which is becoming a huge problem, mainly for students. Students will text in class and because of that they will stop paying attention in class and put all of it on their side conversation which in turn can affect their grade. In this way, texting serves as a risky distraction.
I agree with you I do believe that texting can be a big distraction for them and for the students around them and I'm sure the will see it affecting their grade.
ReplyDeleteI agree texting in certain places like while driving, in classrooms and in front of your date, they are all distracting and dangerous. I appreciate how the laws are cracking down hard on texting while driving to protect everyone. As well as, how teachers are threatening to kick students out of class for using their cell phones. Furthermore, even in relationships, each person is standing up for themselves and saying to put the damn phone away, saying "that is rude to text while we’re on a date"!
ReplyDeleteTexting in front of your date is probably most dangerous. Texting is simple and straight to the point, it does make things faster, but also slower. In "blank"(unknown number) text messages over an hour i could of got the same information in one minute over the phone.
ReplyDeleteYeah my ex boyfriend now (luckily we drove in separate cars) and I went out on a date and decided to text one of his friends in front of me. I understand a simple text or just reading it then putting it away but he kept going back and forth and I just got up and left. Didnt tell him bye or anything. As far as students yes that is a huge distraction and then parents as well as students wonder why they are failing their class or classes.
ReplyDeletei agree with you 100% and one of the worst things you can do is text while driving.
ReplyDeletevery true, texting in class is a huge distraction. thats why teachers hate it so much.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about texting becoming a huge distraction. It has completely strayed away from the reason it was created. The fact that it is now affecting teens in class is a big issue. I hope the world comes to some sort of change.
ReplyDeleteIt is true texting does save time and it also allows you to be quick and not have to have a thirty minute talk to ask what time a party or something is.
ReplyDeleteIt does affect teenagers their grammar isn't as good as it was
ReplyDeletetexting is a huge distraction for students, and it is sad to say that younger kids have cell-phone now.
